Founded in 2021, Powerful Expressions LLC was born from a passion to create a more inclusive and supportive world for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). With a focus on community, compassion, and personalized care, we’ve grown into a trusted provider of services that empower individuals to live fuller, more independent lives. What started as a vision to help others “face obstacles together” has become a vibrant support system rooted in dignity, respect, and purpose.

Tawan Maner, Ed.S., QDDP

With over two decades of experience spanning education, counseling, and disability services, Tawan Maner, Ed.S., QDDP, is the heart behind Powerful Expressions. A proud alumna of Hampton University, Tawan began her career as a Special Education teacher in Hampton City Schools, where she served for eight years. She later transitioned to Newport News Public Schools, dedicating 12 years as a Professional School Counselor.
Throughout her career, Tawan has developed an extensive understanding of diverse personalities and disabilities, equipping her with the knowledge and compassion to be a true advocate for individuals and families. Driven by a lifelong passion for helping others, she founded Powerful Expressions to create a supportive, inclusive environment where every individual’s potential is nurtured.
Beyond her professional achievements, Tawan enjoys shopping, swimming, and playing pickleball. Her commitment to service and community continues to be the foundation of her work, making Powerful Expressions a trusted resource for families seeking guidance and support.
